Body Scrub with Purpose: My Little Lemon Aide Stand

Love Body Scrubs or just interested in an Easy DIY Body Scrub Recipe?

Follow my most recent adventure to making an authentic batch of all natural, homemade body scrub with purpose!

I’ve always dreamed of having a little lemonade stand- to cool everyone off as they make their way to wherever they’re going, in the heat of the summer sun, a sweet hint of mint and honey to sweeten their day. I also may happen to be a hopeless addict of certain Lush products, after working at one of their shops for a couple of years, debunking myths & learning a lot about the ingredients we put into our bodies (that’s when I stopped wearing make up, but that’s for another post). I learned that most of us should be using body scrubs to exfoliate at least once a week, guys.

“Face forward, never look back, extract your mistakes, exfoliate your past and wash it thoroughly with luke warm water.”

LEMON AIDE Body Scrub for Dirty Girls!

Fast forward to now, I decided to try my own hand at body scrub for the benefit of Dirty Girls. Every ingredient I chose for our LEMON AIDE Body Scrub has a purpose, and every jar has a purpose in the lives of the 49,000+ refugees in Lesvos, Greece. Many families are currently living in prison-like refugee camps and with little access to education. The true purpose of this fundraiser is to provide a little help to Dirty Girls of Lesvos Nonprofit as they work to improve conditions on the island. To learn more about the situation in Lesvos, please check out a couple of my other posts, My Big Fat Greek Adventure and Something Drastic.

With a little aide from Keri at Shaken Together, I began the adventure. For the adorable label design, I enlisted the help of my generous, very handsome and skinny husband at AZ Tech Sol. I called up someone I knew would be in for some messy shenanigans, and my friend Bethany didn’t cease to come through. She assisted me in the prepping, mixing, and packaging fun. No, I could not tell you the exact recipe we used. Our little production process that took place on a shower curtain on my living room floor went a little like this… “Does that smell like lemonade yet?”…”Let’s add a dash of-Welp, maybe that was more of a..” -“Ah well, heck with it! Let’s mix it in and taste it!” Don’t you just love your products to be so good that you could eat them? Don’t be surprised if your fur baby tries to take a bite (our pups Amie and Ollie did!). So here’s what I love so much about these little jars of sunshine!

Our All Natural Body Scrub Ingredients!

We used granulated sugar as the base for this scrub, as sugar’s small particles make an excellent topical exfoliate, removing dead surface skin cells to reveal glowing, healthy baby skin underneath!

We use the Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil for its vitamins and antioxidant properties, and because it makes your skin feel luxurious and moisturized. Hydroxytyrosol is a plant polyphenol found abundantly in olives and olive oil, and it is thought to be one of the most powerful antioxidants in the world. We also love that olive trees are native to the Mediterranean region- and did you know they can live for thousands of years?

We added coconut oil for good measure, because we just LOVE that stuff- and if you don’t know any reasons for which coconut oil is good for you by now, I can only assume you don’t have any friends. For the purpose of our scrub, we used coco oil because it’s a gentle, yet thorough cleanser. It softens the keratin caps and makes exfoliation much easier. The light, spreading texture of coconut oil enables it to seep into the hair follicles and dissolve the hardened sebum, bringing it up to the skin surface. Coconut oil also preserves the smoothness of the face by keeping it wrinkle-free (Amen for anti-aging properties!). The antimicrobial action of coconut oil even extends to fungal infections of the skin too.

We added lemon juice to combat dark spots, blemish scars, uneven tone and oily skin. Young Living Lemon Essential Oil provides for additional aromatherapy and rejuvenation.

Of course, we had to add our hint of mint to make this scrub even more refreshing, uplifting and refreshing. Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil gives a cooling sensation and has a calming effect on the body, which can relieve sore muscles as well!

Finally, just like the old-fashioned lemonade you used to drink, we added honey for scent, and healing and soothing qualities. Honey also serves as a natural preservative to maintain the freshness and quality of our scrubs!

Every jar has a purpose in the lives of the 49,000+ refugees who are living within the prison-like confines of refugee camps in Lesvos, Greece.
